DIY Red, White, and Blue Popsicles

Summer starts on June 21st this month, and to us, summer means popsicles galore! Whether we’re going to be hanging out on the boardwalk, in the city, or just in our own backyard for the summer, popsicles are definitely a staple.

For 4th of July, we can’t just be having any old kind of popsicle. We have to represent our red, white, and blue! Though it may sound like a difficult treat to make, it’s actually easy! Today, we’re going to share with you a few ingredient ideas to make your own at home!

Via HGTV Blog

There are many ways to make the red, white, and blue layers using different fruit purees, juices, and yogurts. Here are a few ideas to try. Feel free to mix the ingredients within the same color family to make a juicy combo!

For shades of red (add a little bit of honey and a few drops of lemon for flavoring):

  • Watermelon
  • Raspberry
  • Strawberry
  • Pink grapefruit
  • Cranberry
  • Blood orange

For shades of white:

  • Coconut milk
  • Greek yogurt (sweeten with a bit of honey)
  • Plain yogurt

For shades of blue (add a little bit of honey and lemon for flavoring):

  • Blueberry
  • Grapes
  • Blackberry

Once you have each layer of colors prepared, the next part is super easy. You will need a popsicle mold and popsicle sticks. You will be freezing the popsicle in layers. In the first third of the mold, pour in the red juices and freeze. Once frozen repeat the steps with the other 2 colors.

Freeze overnight! When you’re ready to serve, run the bottom of the mold under water for a few seconds to loosen the popsicle from the mold, and enjoy! Try different molds for a fun popsicle! No mold? No problem! Try it with small tumblers.

The possibilities are endless! You can make a whole batch the day before your 4th of July party for everyone to enjoy. Try making some this 4th of July, and let us know how it turned out!
