Easy Pumpkin Spice Frosting for Fall & Thanksgiving

Pie may be the front runner on the Thanksgiving pastries front, but everyone enjoys a good slice of cake once in a while too, especially with homemade frosting! We can’t just use ordinary vanilla for the upcoming holidays–how about some pumpkin spice cream cheese frosting!

Pumpkin has garnered a lot of attention the past few years (we have to thank Starbucks for that and their super popular Pumpkin Spice Latte!), so we definitely want to incorporate a little pumpkin in our dessert.  If a whole pumpkin cake is a little too much for you, this quick and easy pumpkin spice cream cheese frosting is sure to hit the spot!

From Williams-Sonoma

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup puree pumpkin (canned or fresh)
  • 1 pack of 8oz cream cheese (left out and softened at room temperature)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tbs orange juice
  • half stick of butter (no salt)
  • 1/2 tsp natural vanilla extract
  • cinnamon to taste (around 1 -2 tsp, or until desired spice)

Blend all ingredients (except cinnamon) with a whisk or electric mixer. Smooth out any lumps with a spoon, and keep blending until it reaches a smooth consistency. Sprinkle on the cinnamon and mix to taste. Or you can sprinkle it on top as decorations.

Ways to decorate your cakes and cupcakes with the frosting:

  • smooth on with spatula
  • pipe designs on with a piping bag and tips
  • add nonpareils, sprinkles, or cinnamon, or chocolate chips
  • put 2 colors of frosting into a piping bag to make a swirly color design

This recipe is quick and easy, but feels homemade and cozy to enjoy! Pumpkin spice is so popular for the Fall season, and we think its great that it’s making it’s mark just in time for the holidays! Do you enjoy the pumpkin spice trend? Let us know below!

Halloween Lunch: Ghoulish Bento Box

Since Halloween is on a Wednesday this year, all the kids will be excited to spend the holiday with their classmates.  Send the kids to school with their Halloween costumes, and sneak in a surprise for lunch! Instead of a sandwich, why not create a spooky bento box for your kids to bring to school.

Bento is known as a home packed meal in the Japanese culture, and it has turned into an art form. Each bento box is carefully crafted to go above and beyond regular packed lunch, with cute characters and fun food designs.

In today’s post, we are featuring some spooky themed bento boxes, pefect for a Halloween lunch! Your kids will definitely be pleasantly surprised if they find one of these in their lunch pail!

From The World According to Egg Face

Add a little chocolate cake worm dessert to complete the lunch!

Have you created a bento box before? Did you enjoy making and eating it? Let us know in the comments below! We think this is also a great idea for kids who are picky eaters. It disguises healthy foods into things that kids would willingly eat.

Not to mention, this would be a great Halloween treat instead of sending your kids to school with candy! Kids and adults can work together to make a healthy and cute meal together!

A Spin on Halloween Colors: Purple Halloween Decor

When you think Halloween, what colors come to mind? Without saying, it has to be orange and black: black for the dark night and spooky witches, orange for the pumpkins! However, another color is making a break for the Halloween scene, and that color is… (drum roll, please) PURPLE!

Purple is one of my favorite colors, and I think it’s great that we are seeing more purple in home decor! Purple compliments black and orange so well, and it definitely puts a new spin on the drab Halloween colors. In today’s blog post, we’re going to share with everyone some cool Halloween decor featuring purple decorations!

We think purple is a great accent color for Halloween because it brings a modern feel to the traditional holiday. How do you feel about purple for Halloween? Yay or nay? Do you like another accent color for Halloween? Let us know in the comments below!
