DIY Votive Candle Decorations to Light Up Your Valentine’s Day

The most romantic holiday of the year is undeniably Valentine’s Day. Many couples opt to celebrate this occasion with a romantic candlelit dinner followed by dessert plates full of chocolate. However, to light up a whole room using fancy Valentine’s Day candles can be costly. With so many different cheap superstores out there, we can easily find plain votive jars and decorate them ourselves to have personalized votive candle holders for Valentine’s Day.

  • votive candle glasses or glass jars
  • embellishments: ribbons, trim, rick rack, buttons, etc
  • paper or fabric
  • glue
  • tealight candles

With heat safe glue, decorate the jar/glass with strips (or other cutouts) of paper or fabric in the print of your choice. Check out the images above for inspiration. Use embellishments such as ribbons, trim, or buttons decorate the strips. Create a pattern with the embellishments.

This idea is optional, but you can fill the bottom of the jar (~1/3) before placing your candle inside. If you are using floating tealights, you can fill it up with water (put a tiny drop of food coloring for colored water). You can also fill the jar up with glitters, nonpareils, sprinkles, or tiny candies as well!

Place your candle inside the votive, light up the candle, and revel in the romantic atmosphere. Remember, never leave a lit candle unattended!

How will you be decorating your Valentine’s Day theme votive candle? Will you be using the usual red, pink, and white colors, or will you step outside the box and use your favorite colors? Let us know in the comments below!
