Valentine’s Day may be overshadowed by loads and loads of yummy chocolates, but that is not the only thing we can gift to our favorite people for the occasion. While just about anyone can pick up a box of chocolate and call it a day, we here at HomeSeasons like to mix it up! How about something that smells heavenly? I think I speak for all of us when I say that nice smelling things are definitely a plus when it comes to gifts!
This Valentine’s Day, we can DIY our own scented sachets to give out for the occasion. This decorating and gift idea is a great rainy day project. Not only are scented sachets easy to make, but everyone could use a little scented boost every now and then!
- light fabric w/ pattern of your choice
- sewing machine OR needle & thread
- potpourri or any other aromatic herbs (such as lavender)
- other decorative items
With the paper and pencil, draw a template for your sachet bag. Since it’s for Valentine’s Day, we suggest a heart shape! If you are making large sachets, draw a larger template. It is up to you how big or small you want your scented satchel to be.
Using the template, cut out two of those patterns from the fabric. Put the two sheets of fabric together (pattern to pattern) and sew around 3/4 of the perimeter. Flip inside out using the opening. Stuff the scented potpourri and herbs into the opening until desired fullness.
Measure out how long you want the scented sachet to hang with the ribbon and double the length. Fold ribbon in half and insert into the opening of the sachet. Leave a little bit of ribbon inside and stitch the opening close.
Decorate the outside of the sachet with whatever you like: fabric paint, patches, glitter glue, beads, etc. It’s up to you!
Make enough of these to pass out at a Valentine’s Day dinner party with friends and loved ones, or just make a few and hang them around your home for a little scented surprise.
